CRICKET: Horspath hope to end season on a high
There will be a new name on the trophy when Horspath face Great & Little Tew at Oxford Downs tomorrow (2.30).
Neither side have won the Oxfordshire Cup before and for both, victory would cap excellent seasons.
Tew have performed creditably to survive with a bit to spare during their first season in the Home Counties Premier League, while Horspath are Cherwell League champions.
“It would be the icing on the cake for us if we can win,” said Horspath captain Adam Krol, who will be on holiday, so misses the match.
“The league is what we focused on, but this is a real bonus.
“To beat sides like Banbury in this competition has been a real boost.”
Tew skipper Andy Harris said: “To still have something to play for at the end of the season is great.
“It is always going to be tough against Horspath and it will be great to have them in our league next year.
“We have a got a balanced side that gives us options with bat and ball.”
Will Eason captains Horspath in Krol’s absence, while Lee Mason (knee) is an injury doubt.
Tew will field the same XI as in today’s league match.
The match follows the Wilf Bennett Trophy final, which sees holders Oxford take on Tiddington (10.30).
Horspath: from W Eason (capt), R Eason, Wynd, Green, Phillips, Ali, Mohammed, Jeacock, Belcher, Mason, Cutter, Skelton.
Great & Little Tew: Smith, Megson, White, Catling, Hubbert, Slatter, Brock, Shurmer, Woods, Harris (capt), Manley.
