Fergus Walkinshaw is relishing the prospect of his Chipping Norton-based sportscar team, FW Motorsport, making their home circuit debut in the penultimate round at Silverstone this weekend.
Launched in January 2013, the team was founded by Walkinshaw as part of his long-term plan to own, manage and race in his own international sportscar team.
The 22-year-old Oxford Brookes University student said: “Racing at my home circuit in my own team is a moment I’ve looked forward to for some time.
“Everyone in the team has worked so hard to get to this point in the season and we all just want to put on a good show and enjoy the weekend.
“We showed some good pace last time out at Rockingham and we’re getting closer to achieving consistent top-six results.”
Despite encountering an expected steep learning curve in their first season of competition, the team has achieved some notable success with Walkinshaw at the wheel.
Opening the season with a top-five result in the first round at Brands Hatch, FW Motorsport has also notched up its first team pole position and a string of top seven results so far.
With a seventh place finish at Silverstone already to his credit, Walkinshaw will be aiming to commemorate the team’s first home event by improving upon that 2012 performance.
Qualifying takes place at 11.45am today, with race one at 4.55pm.
Race two is at 12.35pm tomorrow.
Standings (top ten): 1 T Ingram 690pts, 2 C Breeze 518, 3 M Nicoll-Jones 431, 4 M Davies 426, 5 R Boston 372, 6 P Massot 368, 7 A Watson 294, 8 J Orton 274, 9 C Boardley 262, 10 F Walkinshaw 234.
