DARTS: Oxfordshire fall to third defeat in a row
11:00am Tuesday 5th November 2013 in Sport
OXFORDSHIRE stay rooted to the BDO Inter-Counties Championship Premier Division basement after a 23-13 defeat to Essex in their third match of the campaign.
There were bright spots at Bicester, with Casey Gallagher and Deta Hedman shining for the ladies A team, while Ade Larner pulled off an amazing win in the men’s A match. But for the most part, the hosts were outclassed.
Oxon ladies B drew their game, thanks to wins from Karen Hill, Cali Birch and Tasha Borton.
But the real damage was done in the men’s B clash, which Essex carried 9-3. Oxon’s successes came from Antony Barrett, Brendan Kearns and Eamonn Lilly.
On Sunday, Gallagher and Hedman were the only home winners in a high-quality ladies A game. Oxon averaged of 21.01 to Essex’s 21.30.
So Essex held a commanding 16-8 lead going into the men’s A match.
After losing the first game, Oxon took the next as Dean Lockyer fought hard for a 4-3 victory.
The next four games went to Essex before man-of-the match Josh McCarthy and Preben Krabben halted the slide.
Keith Bedding gained Oxon’s fourth success, before the weekend came to a rousing finale.
In the last match, Essex player Darren Peetoom hit eight 140s, a 137 and two 180s, but still lost to Larner, who gave Oxon some consolation in a heavy defeat.
