Henley Hawks held on for their first win of the season on the road in National 1 and secured a deserved bonus point with a 32-27 triumph at Worthing.
With ten minutes left, victory looked a formality for Hawks, who led 32-8. However, the home side nearly turned the tables in spectacular fashion with three tries in six minutes.
Christoph Bart and Josh McNally scored first-half tries, one converted by James Comben, who also landed a penalty to give Hawks a 15-3 interval lead. Worthing notched a penalty.
The home side reduced the deficit with a try early in the second half, but Henley replied with a penalty from Comben, who then converted two tries of his own for a personal tally of 22 points, earning the man-of-the-match award from the local sponsors.
Worthing threw everything at Hawks in the closing stages, but they withstood the barrage to take the verdict – just!
