WALLINGFORD gave themselves some breathing space above the drop zone with a 39-10 victory at rock-bottom Swindon College Old Boys.

Swindon equalised scrum half Phil Dawes’s opening penalty for Wallingford and closed proceedings with a converted try, but the visitors took control in between.

Lock Carl Tappin crashed over for his first Wallingford try, then replacement James Norris scored from close range.

Wing Ralph Smith added a try double either side of efforts from No 8 Jermaine Webster and centre Pete Holton.

Dawes added three conversions to his penalty.

Alchester managed a four-try bonus point from a 40-28 defeat at high-flying Thatcham.

Dan Kimber led the way with a try brace, while Souava Rakikiki and Adam White also crossed over.

Tom Miles added four conversions.
