WEIGHTLIFTING: Watson sets new record to boost bid

DIDCOT’S Ben Watson broke one British record and equalled another when competing for England at the Commonwealth Champion-ships in Penang, Malaysia.

Lifting in the 105kg class, Watson, pictured, boosted his hopes of being selected for the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow next summer by finishing sixth overall, just two kilograms off fourth place.

In the snatch lift, the St Birinus member came second, lifting 153kg to equal his own British record.

Then in the the clean and jerk, Watson raised 175kg for a British record total of 328kg to seal sixth spot.
