CHRIS Wilder has not given up hope of bringing Asa Hall back to Oxford United this month.

The 27-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at the U’s, but returned to parent club Shrewsbury Town when it expired on New Year’s Day.

Hall, who spent two years with the club before leaving to join the Shrews, was used regularly in the second spell, particularly in Andy Whing’s absence.

All parties have made it clear they are interested in arranging a deal which extends Hall’s stay until the end of the season, but it rests with United agreeing to paying a greater proportion of the midfielder’s wages.

Nothing will be done before the FA Cup trip to Charlton Athletic this weekend, but Wilder believes there is still a chance the two clubs can iron out their differences.

He said: “I don’t think it’s dead, but he’s gone back to Shrewsbury.

“Nothing’s dead until I suppose January finishes, but he goes back and when the timing’s right we’ll see where we are with that.

“I’ve not thought about anything else other than hopefully trying to put a decent performance to get a result at Charlton.”

I thought he had a decent spell with us and often looked our best player. Knowing this club of ours, they will muddle around until Shrewsbury have loaned him out elsewhere and then blame other people for it not happening. It's a blow at a time when we are light enough on numbers and need more in not another out. I despair at times and this is one of those times.

If the player want to come back, maybe look at a short term contract and a permanent move till the end of the season, but as a compromise maybe Hall needs to consider his salary as I seem to recall that was the reason he signed for them in the first place £££
