OXFORDSHIRE star Deta Hedman showed no mercy to her friend and rival Lorraine Farlam as she powered to a 2-0 win at Frimley Green in Surrey last night.

The 54-year-old top seed simply blew her opponent away as she swept into round two and a meeting against either Sharon Prins (Holland) or Germany’s Irina Armstrong.

The ‘Dark Destroyer’ fell to Lisa Ashton at the first hurdle last year, but there was no chance of a repeat as she took the first set 3-1, which included a top score of 177.

An out-shot of 101 gave Hedman a third consecutive leg at the start of the second set and another three ton-plus scores in a 13-darter put her within one leg of the match.

Farlam hit back with three tons and a 109, but Hedman was not to be denied.

The Oxfordshire player, who lives in Witham, Essex, finished with an impressive average of 27.90, while Farlam returned 23.40.
