The New Bridge stretch of the Oxford Canal turned up trumps for Kidlington AS in their Willoughby Memorial Trophy, which attracted 19 anglers.

The water was coloured, but the fish fed well as Alan Steele amassed a fine bag of chub for a winning 14lbs14oz.

They fell to lobworm fished over chopped worm, and the best specimen was 3.0.0.

Ron Hillier had to work hard for his second place, catching 87 fish comprising roach and skimmers on pole and punched bread for 8.9.0.

Alan Middleton was third with 7.5.0 of skimmers and roach on the same method.

Points (after 14 matches): 1 J Bean 89, 2 H Clarke 78, 3 T Lester 72.

The first leg of the Sutton Courtenay AC Markertow Cup was fished on the backwater at Abingdon as there were no other venues available due to the floods, but it proved an inspired choice.

Eight members fished and all weighed in with mainly roach as the venue fished well.

Reg Brant took top spot with 20.8.0, followed close behind by Garry Stafford with 19.5.0 and Colin Prior with 10.2.0.

Eight anglers fished the Masons AC points match on the canal at Aristotle Lane.

Steve Wildman started on bread, catching skimmers and small roach, before changing to chopped worm for perch to put together a winning weight of 8.10.0.

Similar tactics were used by Bob Yeomans in second place for 6.10.0, while Dennis Patrick had 2.8.0 for third.

The canal at Shipton was not as kind to the ten Tackley Estates AC anglers in their latest match.

Mick Merry needed only 3.14.0 of perch and roach on pole with worm and maggot to take the honours.

Frank Malone and Anthony Alder shared second with 1.8.0.

Littlemore AS switched their Vice-Presidents Cup from the river to Club Lake at Orchid where the 17 anglers produced a total weight of 79.0.0.

Mark Shepherd was a clear winner pegged on the unfancied shallow stretch of the lake, catching eight bream and a tench on maggot over pellet on the pole for 36.3.0.

Steve Pitson was second with 14.13.0, comprising four tench and a few roach on pole with corn, followed by Chris Webb with a bream and two tench on maggot over groundbait for 13.5.0.
