Berinsfield’s Gerard Ward stayed on course for a second National Schoolbys Championship final when he won the Home Counties title in convincing style at Luton.

The 13-year-old, pictured, who lost in the class 1 50kg final last year, trounced reigning champ Ty Davies (Sandy ABC) in the final of the class 2 59kg competition.

Ward caught his opponent time and time again with upper cuts and shots to the body to overturn a previous loss to Davies with a unanimous points victory.

Ward competes at Bracknell today in the pre-quarter-final against Southern Counties champion Charlie Jenkins, from Stroud for a place in the last eight.
