Pete Clarke made the most of a good draw and caught eight carp to win Littlemore AS’s Chandlers Challenge Cup, fished by 19 anglers at Stable Lake.

He returned 46lb 6oz, all his fish coming on the pole at 16m, with maggot on the hook.

Runner-up Dave White fished groundbait feeder with maggot to the island and had six carp and a bream for 26.0.0, while Steve Pitson caught four carp on maggot for 23.3.0 and third place.

Doug Robinson won the Prior Cup over the six-match series.

A good field of 19 North Oxford AS anglers contested the first of their closed season canal matches held on the Wol-vercote stretch.

Maurice Winstone took full advantage of his end peg to catch skimmers and perch, alternating between bread and worm, for a winning weight of 7.1.0.

Mick Abbott used chopped worm to net 6.11.0 of perch, including a fine specimen of 2.11.0, for second place.

Third-placed Roger Brown also had perch on the chop for 5.3.0.

  • THE Oxfordshire branch of the GB Pike Anglers Club have announced their winners for the last coarse season.

The biggest stillwater pike went to Rob Orton’s specimen of 24.8.0, while Marc Dibsdall’s fish of 16.1.0 was the best reported from rivers.

Other winners were: Ryan Styles (Junior Trophy) 11.2.0, Vince Williams (Memorial Trophy) 13.0.0.

The next branch meeting is on Thursday, April 10 at Oxford City FC (7.30pm) when the guest speaker will be Eric Edwards.

The St Helen angler has caught a number of 30lb-plus pike, including three over 37lb, with the largest going 41.8.0, caught in 2001. He has also caught specimen tench and bream.

Edwards will also feature at the club’s junior coaching day on Saturday, October 25, at Horseshoe Lake, Lechlade.
