WINDRUSH Valley Boxing Club’s Jimmy Doran suffered a narrow defeat against West Ham’s Michael Dunn in the semi-finals of the England Schoolboy Championship at Feltham.
Doran, 12, started the opening round of their 40kg contest nervously, with Dunn taking the initiative.
Although the Windrush fighter found his shots and settled well in the second and third rounds, it was too late as he lost on a split decision.
Windrush’s press officer Ann Setch said: “It was his first experience of such a pressured environment and he is adamant next year the title will be his.
“Being fourth in England is something to be proud of, so we are looking forward to seeing a lot more from him as he is a talented lad.”
Meanwhile, Doran’s clubmate, Shaun Calloway, 11, warmed up for his first fight at Carterton on Sunday, May 4 with an impressive display in a skills bout against Swindon’s Luke Varey.
