Eventing star Charlotte Bacon has targeted a place in the Olym-pics after being honoured in the annual West Oxfordshire Sports Awards at the Witney Lakes resort.

Bacon, 16, from Shipton-under-Wychwood, was voted sole winner of the World Class Talent award after excelling in equestrian.

She achieved team bronze and finished in 11th place in the individual event at the 2013 Junior European Eventing Championships.

She said: “I’m very grateful. I am aiming high and want to make it to the big stage – I hope to the get to the Olympics.”

The awards are organised annually by West Oxfordshire District Council in conjunction with the GLL Sports Foundation.

Winners received funding of between £100 and £1,000 to help with costs associated with their sport.

They also receive free training membership at council-owned leisure facilities in West Oxfordshire, which are managed by leisure provider GLL Better, founder of the GLL Sport Foundation.

Regional awards: J Cardy (aquathlon), J Currah (athletics – 800m), E Nutt (swimming), N Reddy (Cycling), S McPeak (kayaking – freestyle), J Morris (rugby league), T Costley (cricket), M Kavanagh (gymnastics), F Howells (hockey), L Kavanagh (gymnastics), E Kearney (hockey).

Achievement: M Brown (sailing), B Ellis Massey (roller hockey), T Everex-Armstrong (baseball), E Hubbert (disability athletics: 100m and 200m), D Shadbolt (roller hockey), C Tweedle (sailing), J Williams (roller hockey).

Top-up: G Barnicoat (kayaking: sprint and marathon), K Nutt (water skiing), F R Ryley (target rifle shooting: 10m precision), C Goodfellow (triathlon).

World class: C Bacon (equestrian).

CHIPPY Trixsters skater hockey club coach Dave Edwards was among the winners at the annual Chipping Norton sports awards.

He won the over 18 sportsperson award after setting up the team to promote minority sports to young people.

Under 11 sportsperson: M Donaghy (athletics).

Ages 11-17 sportsperson: T Martin (eventing).

Over 18 sportsperson: D Edwards (street hockey).

Under 18 team: Chipping Norton School under 12 rugby.

Over 18 team: The Ten’s team, Chipping Norton Bowls Club.

Special award: A Powell (motorsport).
