LEE Curran, bailiff at Phil’s Lake in Abingdon, caught two cracking carp after a quick overnight session.
The 36-year-old building trade agency worker, from Littlemore, caught a personal-best common of 36lb 10oz, plus a 22.4.0 mirror, fishing pop-ups.
Curran said: “It’s quite a hard water as there’s not that many carp in there, but the ones that are there are big.
“Even the tench are huge – my smallest out of there is 5lb!”
The lake is run by Sutton Courtenay AC and season permits and day tickets can be purchased from most local tackle shops. The club also have plenty of river fishing in and around Abingdon.
Curran’s big carp beat his previous best common, which he caught a few years ago from the Thames at Abing-don, by 1.6 ounces.
He said Sutton Courtenay were looking for more members, adding: “I think people need to be aware that there is wonderful, affordable fishing on their doorstep.”
