Keeper Clarke lands both Oxford United awards

RYAN Clarke has been named as Oxford United’s player of the season by both the club’s supporters and his fellow players.

The goalkeeper, who has not missed a minute of competitive football in this campaign, collected the awards before kick-off on Saturday.

But speaking after the 2-1 defeat to Accrington Stanley, which confirmed the U’s would miss out on the top seven, Clarke admitted he would happily trade individual honours for a better collective season.

He said: “It’s nice to get a couple of awards obviously, but the be all and end all is I’d rather have had an iffy season with someone else getting them and we were in the play-offs.

“It’s a rubbish end.”

Josh Ruffels was named young player of the year for his contribution in making 34 appearances.

The youth team award went to Josh Ashby, who has already signed a long-term contract to join the senior squad next season.

Very well done Ryan.. You are a top keeper and have really kept us in a lot of games this season as well as keeping the score down!
