BAR BILLIARDS: Webb's big blitz in vain for Masons

First published in Sport

Chris Webb’s brilliant score of 25,730 proved in vain as Masons B went down 3-2 at home to West Oxford Democrats Club in the Johnson Buildbase Oxford League, writes PETE EWINS.

And with Berinsfield Club crashing to a shock 5-0 defeat at Marlborough Club, it means Democrats lead Section 1 by three and a half points with two games remaining.

Ernie Smith gave Masons the lead only for John Patey (6,180) and Bob Parsons to hit back for Democrats.

Webb levelled the match with his huge score, but Eddie Tebby snatched victory for Democrats with a 4,120-2,710 win over Martin Skyrme.

Gladiators Club A lost 3-2 at home to Kennington Club.

Steven Sheard starred with the season’s highest away break of 12,380 in his score of 14,640.

Masons A won 3-2 at Vikings, thanks to Maxi McDonnell, Martyn Wood and Alan Lowe, who opened with a break of 9,100 in his score of 9,200.

Ian Moss (10,610) and Alan Oliver (4,770) were Vikings winners.

Results: Vikings 2, Masons A 3; Masons B 2, West Oxford Democrats 3; Marlborough 5, Berinsfield 0; Didcot Con Club 3, Headington Con Club 2; Gladiators Club A 2, Kennington 3.
