MAX Ferreira’s terrific run out off the final ball of the match saw Oxfordshire Under 10s’ campaign start with a tie in their clash with the District Under 11 side at Aston Rowant.

Ferreira hit a maiden half-century and Alex Orders scored 38 as the county reached 136-8.

However, that score was under par after they managed just 12 runs in the closing seven overs. Ko Uchida took 3-8 from his seven overs.

After the district side had been restricted to 8-3, Max McGee (42) started the recovery.

Requiring four runs off the final over, two dot balls were followed by two runs over mid-wicket.

The same shot was played off the penultimate delivery, but such was their eagerness to complete victory, the batsmen ran one short.

And off the final delivery, they tried to scamper a single to Ferreira, who shot down the stumps for a run out to leave the scores level.

  • Oxfordshire Under 13 girls started their season with a 42-run victory over Hertfordshire at Moreton.

Charlotte Hayes and Sophie Mitchelmore shared an opening partnership of 62 and, helped by useful cameos from Grace Guthrie and Miranda Edwards, Oxon reached 124-7 from their 35 overs.

Herts began brightly, but Mara Smith, Georgia Brown and Edwards bowled well to dismiss them for 82, Edwards finishing with 3-6.

  •  Oxfordshire Under 15s beat Buckinghamshire by 41 runs in their first ECB League match of the season.

Ellie Noble and Naomi Hodkinson starred with the bat as Oxfordshire posted 152-7 from their 40 overs.

Bucks were cruising to victory at 70-0, but then lost all ten wickets for 41 runs with the Oxon bowlers sharing the wickets in a confidence-boosting result.

  •  Oxfordshire Under 11s also got their campaign off to a winning start, enjoying an eight-run victory over Worcestershire at Combe.

Having reached 64-7 off their 25 overs, Oxon restricted the visitors to 56-5.

Sadie Timbs was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets.
