KIT Cutter hit a half-century on his Division 2 debut for Hors-path before their game at Finchamsptead was abandoned with the match evenly poised.

The stand-in opener made a composed 52 off 116 balls as Horspath posted 177-8 from 46 overs after being put in to bat, with their innings being shortened by four overs due to a rain break.

Cutter, who survived a couple of chances, was well supported by skipper Will Eason (42) and Andy Wynd with a late flurry against an accurate Finchampstead attack spearheaded by towering New Zealander Tipene Friday (3-26).

Berkshire all-rounder Harry Stephens took 1-22 off his ten overs of off-spin, together with four catches.

With Horspath’s innings being curtailed, it brought the Duckworth/Lewis Method into play, with Finchampstead set a revised target of 185 off 46 overs.

A further rain break saw this amended to 151 from 30 overs, and they had reached 73-2 off 17 overs with Stephens 43 not out when the ground was hit by a further downpour.

With water lying on the square, and 20 overs needing to be bowled to constitute a game, the umpires ruled there was insufficient time to restart the game, and declared it abandoned.
