DIVISION 1 new boys Cowley Internationals posted their first win of the season with a narrow 18-run triumph at home to Chadlington, writes DAVID QUINN.

Having joint top-scored with 30 in his side’s 139 all out, Ayaz Khan, who is temporarily on loan from Horspath due to work commitments, then grabbed 5-35 as the visitors were bundled out for 121.

Freddie Simon shone for Chad, making 66 not out and taking 3-39, but his team have now lost both of their opening fixtures.

Charlbury lead the table after they successfully chased down Oxenford’s 181-6 to make it two wins from two starts.

Skipper Josh Hornsby and opener Ajit Shah were unbeaten on 43 and 48 respectively to seal the win.

Their teammate, Ben Geeson-Brown, had an especially good day, following up his 4-30 with 41 valuable runs.

In the only other Division 1 game not abandoned due to the rain, Minster Lovell defeated Hook Norton by three wickets.

Jack Simpson was the star of the show as he added 31 in his side’s successful run chase to the 4-22 he took earlier when Hook Norton were rolled over for 96.

Radley’s Atif Liaquat supplemented his four wickets on the opening day with a haul of 6-15 in his team’s Division 2 win at Clifton Hampden.

The home side were routed for 52, with the visitors knocking off the runs in just the 13th over.

Stonesfield maintained their excellent start with a 114-run victory over Chipping Norton.

Ryan Allen was out for 49 as Stonesfield racked up 167-5.

Ed Oakley then got to work, taking 6-20 as the hosts were skittled for 53.

Despite Jon Francis’s contribution of 62, East & West Hendred’s total of 170-9 was not quite enough in a tense affair with Combe.

Julian Chaundy’s 53 not out, following up his earlier 3-41 with the ball, saw his side home with nine balls remaining.

Wantage head Division 3 after a brace of victories, the latest away to Witney Swifts.

After racking up a massive 210-7 in just 25 overs, Colin Mercer and Barry Martin each contributing 52, Wantage’s attack restricted Swifts to 145-4.

In a belter at Chesterton, Cairns Fudge posted 138 in their rain-reduced allocation of 25 overs, Steve Lewis taking 4-48.

Lewis then blasted 48 of his own runs, but his side fell agonisingly short on 134-8 as Fudge edged home by four runs.

Without a fixture seven days earlier, Wolvercote opened their account with a comfortable success over Westcott, again in a reduced overs encounter.

They dismissed Westcott for 119, with Barkat Ahmed taking 5-24.

Alex Hadcock then cracked 72 not out to secure a nine-wicket win in the penultimate over.
