Horley pipped visiting Great & Little Tew on countback in a thrilling Bernard Tollett Oxfordshire Cup quarter-final tie.

Having exactly matched Tew’s 139-9, Horley were unsure who had won as the sides left the field.

But a quick check on the rules revealed countback should decide the clash, with Horley’s 133-7 after 19 overs beating Tew’s 127-8.

Jon Hart (3-37) helped restrict Tew first up before Dave Clark (65) played Horley’s key innings, despite Matt Woods’s 4-18.

There was more drama at Ship-ton-under-Wychwood where the hosts beat Banbury by one wicket.

Craig Haupt (55) was the mainstay of Banbury’s 175-8.

The visitors reduced Shipton to 8-3 inside three overs, but some big hitting from Joe Barrett (57), Tim Senior (44) and George Seacole (43) turned the tide.

Shipton still had it all to do at 169-9 after 19 overs. But Banbury captain Jimmy Phillips, who had to step in as his side’s umpire, signalled they had used up the allotted 75 minutes to bowl their overs.

This meant six penalty runs and put the scores level before Shaun Milller hit the second ball of the final over for four.

Horspath’s home clash with Ast-on Rowant last night was abandoned due to rain.

Oxford beat Cumnor in the other quarter-final.
