DIVISION 1

NICK Pykett fell three runs short of his century as Tiddington racked up 261-5 dec from 41 overs at fellow strugglers Cumnor, who were to regret choosing to field first.

He was well supported by Will Cooper (72) as all the home bowlers struggled to contain the visiting batsmen.

The match was reduced by rain to 77 overs, leaving Cumnor chasing an improbable 262 from 36 overs.

Matt Johnson (4-43) removed any slim chance they had of victory, but skipper Sam Jones hit 52 and they were comfortable enough in the end on 157-7.

Oxford Downs are still winless and bottom after they were on the wrong end of a rain-affected draw at home to Thame Town.

Openers Mike Higgs (44) and James Neilson (33) got Thame off to a good start after they elected to bat, then No 3 James Crichton made 51.

Richard Beer took 4-46 from 11 overs to check the scoring.

However, the visitors’ total of 204-8 was always going to be too many given that Downs only received 26 overs in reply.

So it proved despite the best efforts of Wes Bartlett (54) and James France (36) as they closed on 165-7.

Banbury 2nd batted for twice as many overs as their hosts Buckingham Town, but still lost by seven wickets.

The visitors chose to bat first, but could manage only 112-9 as they lost wickets at regular intervals to Lester Smart (3-17) and Wayne Platts (3-27).

Simon Myatt then hit 42 not out in Town’s 113-3 from 19.2 overs to cement his side’s place at the top.

Jake Kubinak hit 74 in Twyford’s 193-6 from 40 overs at Oxford 2nd.

That represented a recovery as the visitors’ openers managed only two runs between them after they had elected to bat first.

Left-arm spinner Bilal Afzal (3-28) opened the bowling for Twyford and made early inroads.

But opener Adam Hall (40no) held firm and Oxford finished comfortably on 93-4 from 22 overs.
