Four big bream gave Andy Flint victory in the second round of the Oxford Summer League fished by seven teams of six on the Medley and Folly stretches of the Thames.

Although Roach sho-wed all the way through both stretches, the Tub-ertini South angler made the most of an end peg in Perch Bay on Medley and he was one of the only one to find bream.

He used feeder and worm to tempt the four big ‘slabs’ and also caught skimmers for a winning 20.5.0.

Paul Passmore (Turners) was sec ond with 17.0.0 from Folly, comprising 11lb of perch on worm, plus roach.

Steve Townsend (Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths) caught perch and skimmers on pole and worm from just below the railway bridge on Folly for 12.11.0 and third place.

Teams: 1 Turners 33pts, 2 Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths Red 29, 3 Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths Blue 28.

League: 1 Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths Red 55, 2 Sensas 53, 3 Turners 52.

The fifth round of the Oxford Carp League was fished by 15 anglers at Panshill Fishery, near Murcott.

Andy Wiffen used his usual meat tactics on the pole at 4m and in the margins, catching plenty of F1’s and carp to top the field with 91.4.0.

Fishing the long pole at 14.5m, Craig Partridge caught plenty of decent carp shallow on maggot for a second-placed 89.14.0, followed by Les Hill with 86.2.0 of carp to 5lb corn in the margins.

North Oxford AS held their Roach Cup match on the Thames at Godstow and for the second week running, Ron Hamblin triumphed.

He caught 8.3.0 of bits on red maggot over groundbait.

Maurice Winstone alternated between worm and bread to catch a decent perch, plus bits, for 4.7.0 and second, followed by Bob Yeomans (RAF/Garbolino) with 3.13.0.

Ten anglers fished the second of Marston AC FTB’s Wednesday evening matches on the Dead Stream.

Marston were back on the Cherwell on Sunday and Graham Bradshaw had one big bream, plus small roach and perch, for a winning weight of 8lb on pole and red maggot.

Steve Tomkins was second with 3.10.0, pipping his son, Anthony, by two ounces.

Kidlington AS’s second points match on the Cherwell at Thrupp produced four small barbel, indicating that some of the stocked fish have prospered.

Bream also featured, helping Henry Clarke to top spot with 8.6.0, supplemented by roach and dace on stick float with maggot.

Jamie Barrett caught bream, roach and chub on worm over groundbait feeder for 5.7.8 and second, while Phil Blackman had 4.12.0 of chub and roach on breadflake for third.
