Littlemore AS’s Jim Henwood Shield on the Thames at Medley attracted 19 anglers and it was a case of snaring an early bream before it got sunny.

Tony Bailey fished a feeder with dead maggot and caught one bream and skimmer, plus a few perch, for a winning 9.13.9, his second victory of the season.

John Davis found a few roach on the waggler that fancied the hemp and tare for a second-placed 5.10.0, followed by Pete Clarke. He alternated between waggler, pole and feeder for a mixed net of fish on maggot worth 5.8.0.

The practice match for the next round of the Oxford Summer League was fished by 28 anglers on the Thames either side of Radley boathouse.

With the river still carrying good summer flow and colour, decent catches were expected and it did not disappoint.

Steve Bibby (Tubertini South) drew a well-known chub peg and used an open end feeder with hemp and caster to catch some small chub at the start.

A change to double sweetcorn resulted in four large chub, the biggest a spawned-out 5.14.0, for a winning total of 23.12.0.

Steve Townsend (Drennan Banbuty Gunsmiths) was just behind with 23lb – an all-roach catch on pole and caster over groundbait.

Third place went to Paul Passmore (Devizes) with 19.2.0, comprising one bream, plus some perch and small chub on choppped worm feeder, plus skimmers on the pole and maggot over groundbait.

Kidlington AS’s third points match on the Thames at Folly was won by Doug Foreshew with 11.14.0 of skimmers, roach and perch on feeder with chopped worm and caster.

Jason Bean was two ounces behind with a bag of roach and perch on pole-fished hemp and caster, followed by Billy Burnell with 8.13.0, comprising a bream, skimmers and perch on lob over cage-fed groundbait.

Yarnton & District AC fished the top pool at Tunnel Barn Farm where veteran Steve Johnson topped the 12-strong field with 93.9.0 of carp on maggot.

Andy Wiffen was second with 76.7.0 on maggot and pellet, and Steve Bartrum third with 57.11.0.

Nine anglers fished the third of the Marston AC FTB’s three-hour evening matches on the Cherwell’s Dead Stream.

Anthony Tomkins took top spot with 3.7.0 of small roach and perch on maggot and hemp. Graham Bradshaw was second with 2.10.0 of perch, followed by Steve Foster with 2.1.0.
