CRICKET: Centurion Cater hails Oxfordshire spinners
JONNY Cater was quick to credit his spin-bowling teammates after his century helped Oxfordshire book their place in the final of the Unicorns Counties Knockout Trophy.
The Banbury wicket-keeper batsman made an excellent 101 not out in Oxon’s 263-8 for his second county ton in successive matches.
But having been under the cosh in Wiltshire’s reply, Cater felt it was the hosts’ spinners who won the game.
“We have played here twice before this season and the spinners have always come into it,” said Cater.
“We knew that we had three or four quality spinners in our team, so we were confident and they did the job.
“We didn’t start very well, but the character of the side and the fielding was excellent.”
Cater was clearly delighted to bring up his ton in the final over of Oxon’s innings.
He said: “It was an unbelievable feeling to score that century and for all that hard work we have put into the 50-over side coming off.
“It was a high pressure game being a semi-final, so it was fantastic to repeat that.
“Now we have got a final to look forward to.”
