Few teams were cursing the weather more than Aston Rowant, who had surely built up a winning position when their Serious Cricket Home Counties League Division 1 game at home to Burnham was abandoned after 18 overs.

In that short time, Aston Rowant had reduced their opponents to a disastrous 31-6.

Burnham, who had decided to bat first, soon regretted it as Wes Morrick struck in the first over, Sajad Ali being caught by Miles Hammond.

Morrick was proving unplayable in the seaming coniditions, and picked up three more wickets to finish with 4-7 from nine overs.

His opening partner, Leo Bethell, meanwhile, was not going to miss out on the action and picked up two wickets of his own, with the aid of sharp catches.

The teams left the field, and after further heavy showers, the match was called off at 3.20pm, much to Rowant’s frustration.

Banbury, meanwhile, lost ground in the title race when their contest away to fellow contenders High Wycombe was washed out after a big storm.

Wycombe, who won the toss and chose to bat had reached 53-0 from 11.1 overs.

Henley meanwhile, leapt to the top of the table with a 145-run win at Harefield.

Heavy rain put paid to Shipton-under-Wychwood’s Division 2 game at Amersham with the hosts 94-3 after 21 overs.
Amersham had made steady progress after being put in to bat, but then the ground was hit by a deluge, preventing further play.
