A STIRRING second-half saw Witney roar to a 49-18 home victory over Devizes.

Devizes fly half Rory Brown kicked a drop goal and a penalty, while home lock Richard Haire was sin-binned.

Full back Jake Thomas replied with a try, while No 8 Joe Rowles was driven over for a 10-6 half-time lead.

Witney enjoyed a purple patch, with locks Dave Hyde and Haire grabbing their next two tries, centre James Lamb converting one.

Lamb slotted a penalty after Devizes prop Toby Randall was yellow-carded.

Wing Ben Fisk and scrum half Arron Lambourne got in on the try act, with Lamb converting the latter.

Rowles touched down his second, converted by Lamb and hooker Sam Hoskins scored late on.

In between, Ryan Webb and Chris Barter went over for Devizes, the latter converting one, while they also had No 8 Craig Bryant sin-binned.

Grove’s battling effort went unrewarded in a 22-12 defeat at leaders Chippenham.

Chippenham led 12-0 after 17 minutes thanks to two tries and a conversion, while Grove flanker Cash Chilvers was yellow-carded.

Lock Paul Miles set up Grove centre Brendon White to go over in the corner.

Grove were level when replacement Steve Dixey crashed over, full back Henry Day converting.

A converted try and a penalty sealed it, despite more Grove pressure.
