Oxfordshire 2nd are still waiting for their first point of the season in Division 4 Central of the Inter-County Championships.

After going down 10-5 in Bedfordshire in their opening match, they suffered defeat by the same scoreline in their home match against Lancashire 3rd at Barth-olomew School, Eynsham.

One rubber in either match would have given Oxfordshire a point.

Nicola Patrick won all three of her rubbers against Lancashire, but it proved in vain as a disastrous round of men’s doubles, which saw Oxon lose all four matches, was critical.

Singles wins for Lauren Cooper, 23-21, 22-20 over Fay Ormesher and Emma Cramond, who beat Joanne Holt 21-16, 21-16 meant the scores were level at 2-2 after the first round.

Although Patrick and Amber Wing won both their women’s doubles, Cooper and Cramond lost each of theirs.

With Lancashire winning all the men’s matches, Oxon trailed 8-4 going into the mixed.

Patrick and Pete Browning beat George Jacobs and Holt 21-12, 22-20, but defeat in the other two matches saw Oxon fail to get off the mark.

It was a similar story against Bedfordshire.

Cramond was the only Oxon player to record a singles success, winning her rubber 21-11, 21-18 against Suzanne Rumbles.

Both women’s doubles went the way of Oxfordshire too, Patrick and Wing as well as Cooper and Cramond victorious.

David Buckingham and Chris Lim won their second men’s doubles match, meaning Oxon needed to win at least two mixed games to pick up a point.

But only Matt Jackson and Cooper could record success.
