GORDON Ross described London Welsh’s 18-9 home defeat to Gloucester as a missed opportunity.

Assistant coach Ross, who was an unused replacement, was left frustrated that they could not break their season’s duck.

“We have obviously struggled a bit.

“It was there for the taking, but we didn’t quite have that level of execution at crucial moments.”

Ross accepted that opting to go for the corner rather that take two very kickable penalties had cost Welsh dearly.

“It was decided on the field,” he said.

“They obviously felt we had a bit of momentum and that we could drive them over and get a converted try.

“It’s great these boys have the guts to do it, but unfortunately again we didn’t have the level of execution that we needed.”

Gloucester coach Nick Walshe said: “We knew it was going to be a tough game as London Welsh put out quite an experienced side.

“We had a really young pack out there and I thought they fronted up brilliantly.

“I am absolutely delighted. I thought it was a great performance.”
