Matt Corker admits London Welsh were embarrassed by their horror show at Wasps, but says all hope is not lost.

The Exiles club captain was part of the team who were hammered 71-7 in Wasps’ final Aviva Premiership match at Adams Park on Sunday.

“It hurt us and hurt us a lot,” said Corker.

“We were embarrassed about the result and the size of the defeat.

“The bruises have recovered. I’m not sure if the broken heart has.

“We were very disappointed with the result and especially the magnitude of it.

“That’s not at all what we are about.”

The Wasps scoreline and Welsh’s poor form generally means it is hard to see them ending their winless run against Leicester at Oxford’s Kassam Stadium on Sunday.

But Corker stressed: “There’s a lot of rugby still to be played.

“We are only eight points adrift of Newcastle.

“We will be working hard to fix the mistakes we made.

“It’s definitely not beyond us. We know that.

“But we need to be doing it for the full 80 minutes.”

Corker said there had been a frank team meeting to discuss the Wasps match.

The Welsh skipper added: “People made individual mistakes, but there was also the system breaking down because people were not doing their job right.

“As a group, we take responsibility for all of this.”
