ASTON Rowant trainer Alan Hill was delighted to see King’s Legacy bounce back to form with victory at the Kimblewick Hunt meeting at Kingston Blount.

It was doubtful whether the evens favourite would ever return to a racecourse after a brush with death in the summer, but he proved too good for his rivals in the Confined race, with Hill’s son Joe in the saddle.

“He was very ill in the summer with acute liver failure and was rushed to the vet and put on a drip,” the trainer said.

“He was brought back into work slowly with lots of hunting in the autumn, but needs good ground which he got.”

Trainer Tim Underwood and jockey Katy Lyons gained their first leg of a double in the most dramatic race of the day.

Their 1-4 favourite, Tallow Fair, took up the running and was going well when he tried to run off the course with five left to jump.

This left 16-year-old Lilly Pinchin aboard Marblehead with a clear lead, but needing to just jump the last for an easy win, the pair bypassed the fence in error leaving the unruly Tallow Fair to claim the win.

In a much more straightforward affair, the second half of the Underwood Lyons double came in the six-runner concluding Restricted race when Carnglave Cat, sent off as 6-4 favourite, got the better of Celtic Intrigue to win by one and three quarter lengths.

Elsewhere, Cheyanwe won the four-mile Philip Scouller Memorial Southern Grand National, Mixed Open Race.

The 6-1 shot took over on the run-in from long-time leader Moscow Blaze.

Western Movie won the Maiden race under jockey Gordon Hopkinson, while Steel Away J took the Open Maiden and 1-6 favourite Lake Legend won the Members’ race.
