Two promising 13-year-olds have guided the Oxford & District League into the finals of a national tournament Reece Chamdal, from Bicester, and Didcot’s Erik Wahlgren, performed superbly to qualify Oxford for the last eight of the Carter Cup – a national under 18 team event.
It is rare for Oxford to enter the event, let alone make the finals, which they did by coming second in a qualifying event at Aylesbury.
Chamdal, who plays for Kidlington Forum, and Wahlgren, who represents Rutherford Appleton Laboratories, had it all to do after losing 4-1 to Cambridge in their opening match.
So the pair had to win their next two matches.

Chamdal won twice as Watford were dispatched 4-1, the feature of the match being an exciting doubles victory.
That left Wembley & Harrow to beat for Oxford to qualify.
Wahlgren was the star of this contest, won twice as they secured another 4-1 victory. Chamdal lost his singles, with the match already won.
It was a superb effort by Oxford, coached on the day by Stephen Baggaley, brother of former Commonwealth Games medallist Andrew.
The national finals will be at the Westfield TTC, Wellingborough, on Sunday, June 14.
