A measured century from Tim Paine and another ruthless performance in the field saw Banbury to a second win on the bounce in Division 1 as they triumphed by 133 runs at Tring Park.

Banbury skipper Luke Ryan elected to bat on what looked a challenging pitch, anticipating spin later in the day.

Paine was up to the task as, while partners fell at the other end, he used a watchful approach and rotated the strike well early in his innings.

The evergreen Simon Stanway (3-38) was typically probing in the helpful conditions and Banbury were soon 50-3.

But Paine continued to prosper, making 109 off 128 balls with 11 fours to usher Banbury to 206-8 off 50 overs.

Ashley Blanchard gave Banbury the perfect start to Tring’s innings as the dangerous Robin Pritchard edged to Richard West at second slip off the fourth ball.

Liam Manley was equally disciplined and he snared Duncan Maddinson and Matthew Grinham in quick succession to leave Tring 18-3.

Banbury’s change bowlers kept up the pressure.

Shelvin Gumbs edged Ollie Wright to first slip where Jimmy Phillips took the first of three catches in succession, as Maddison followed in the same fashion and Payne also edged a West off break.

Ryan (3-7) brought himself into the attack and swiftly mopped up the tail as Tring were skittled for 73.
