Emily-Kate Barnett and Kate Garman claimed gold and silver at the British Solo Ice Dance Championships in Sheffield.

They were among five skaters, who all train at the Oxpens Road rink in Oxford, to compete at the event.

Barnett, 13, from Botley, struck gold in the advanced novice category, delighting her coach Sue Hands.

“I’m proud to see Emily-Kate fulfil some of her promising potential, competing in an age group with girls up to three years older was a fantastic achievement,” she said.

Chinnor’s Garman, 12, took silver in the Juvenile category.

Her coach Pamela Rhodes added: “Katie has worked really hard and has made rapid improvement over the last year.

“I am delighted she has been rewarded with a medal.”

Anais Arnould and Ceri Kearney finished fourth and seventh respectively in the basic novice competition.

In the Junior category, Juliana Drozd achieved a personal best score in the free dance section as she came sixth overall.

Their coaches, Hands and David Horton added: “Anais and Ceri have had a very good season, scoring lots of personal bests in the qualifying competitions and we’re very proud of them.

“Juliana skated her absolute best and as coaches we cannot ask for more. We are very pleased with the result.”
