GREAT & Little Tew are set to clinch the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 2 title at the home of west Oxfordshire relegation-threatened derby rivals Shipton-under-Wychwood on Saturday.

Tew, who secured promotion when Dinton scratched last week, need just three points from their final 50-overs game to cap a memorable season with the championship.

Tew skipper Andy Harris, is desperate to finish top of the pile.

He said: “It would feel a little bit empty to come second after losing the last game.

“We’re certainly looking to go out on a win. It would be a nice way to finish off the season.

“Getting promotion is a fantastic achievement for the club.

“It is what we have been working towards over the last five or six years.”

For Shipton, there’s a very different agenda, as they require eight points to ensure escaping the drop.

“I can’t believe we’re in this position,” said Shipton captain Simon Hole.

“I said at the start of the summer that we had our strongest side in years and we made a great start, but we’ve been woeful in the second half of the season - especially our batting.

“I’m expecting no favours from Great Tew. We have a healthy rivalry and they won’t give us anything.

“We’re going out to win the game, and then we’ll be OK.”

Shipton have named a squad of 12 for the game. Jason Hunt and Craig Wood are unavailable, while Matt Brown, Calvin Dickinson and Steve Bates come in.

Aston Rowant need six points at Gerrards Cross to ensure safety, having spent much of the season in the bottom two.

Favourites to go down are Cove, who must beat Amersham.

With Banbury falling short in their title chase, and Oxford already relegated, interest in Division 1 centres on Horspath, who could still go down.

Will Eason’s men, who are fourth from bottom, need seven points at home to fellow candidates Tring Park to be safe.

They will be missing Jimmy Phillips and Adam Price, but welcome back strike bowler Pat Foster.
