CHINNOR were cruelly denied their first win of the season as a last-minute try handed Dorking a 30-27 victory in National League 2 South on Saturday.

The defeat leaves them winless from five games.

Full back Bertie Hopkin kicked an early penalty for Chinnor, but Dorking took a 5-3 lead through Kariym Irving’s unconverted score.

Chinnor then took hold of the game, as captain James Tyas and replacement Joe Vandermolen crossed.

Hopkin converted both scores for 17-5.

But Dorking reduced the arrears to two points at the break after Chinnor’s Will Millett was sin-binned for tackling in the air.

Fraser MacDonald kicked a penalty, before converting Irving’s try in front of the posts.

Chinnor started the second half brightly and, when Dorking were also restricted to 14 men, Hopkin’s penalty made it 20-15.

But the hosts went onto take a 25-20 lead when Cameron Pinlow and Zach Woodcock crossed for unconverted tries.

The visitors responded well and Jamie Townsend went over.

Hopkin converted for 27-25.

But just when Chinnor thought they had done enough to seal victory, Dorking intercepted the ball in the final attack.

And a kick and chase saw Irving touchdown for his hat-trick and earn victory for the hosts.

Henley Hawks picked up their first home win, beating Wharfedale 39-13 in National League 1.

Dave Clements drove over for Hawks, with James Comben adding the extras for 7-0.

James Guy then converted his own try to draw the sides level, but the hosts retook the lead when Tom Hall touched down.

Comben missed the conversion as Henley led 12-7, before a Guy penalty reduced their advantage to three points at the break.

Comben kicked two three-pointers, before Guy replied with one of his own for 18-13.

Hawks then went onto dominate as Simon Perry squeezed over and Connor Murphy crossed.

Both were converted by Comben to make it 32-13.

And there was still time for Jamie Davies to run in from 60 metres, with Comben converting.
