JORDAN Flynn faces one of the biggest tests of his fledgling boxing career today when he takes on national champion Luke McCormack in Sheffield.

The 19-year-old, from Cowley, will face the England Elite champion in the GB Championships Finals at the English Institute of Sport.

Lightweight boxer Flynn, who used to train at Berinsfield ABC, only found out he would be fighting on Monday after Adam Cope withdrew from the one-day event – which pits the winners of this year’s GB Elite Three Nations competition against a selected member of the British team.

And if he beats McCormack he could be selected to the national squad and join the World Class Performance Programme as a funded athlete.

Flynn, who is in his first year at senior level, heads to Sheffield in a confident mood.

He said: “McCormack is looking like he will go to the Olympics and if I beat him it will put me right up there.

“My coach thinks it is a 50/50 fight.

“He is very experienced, but my coach believes if I box to my ability he is not going to be stronger than me and I have a chance.

“As long as I use my brain I think I can beat him.”
