OXFORD United will travel to Cumbria by train tomorrow following a move by sponsors Liontrust.

The 270-mile journey is the club's longest of the season and would normally involve a tedious coach journey.

Instead they will travel by road to Milton Keynes, before transferring to the faster rail option, paid for by United's shirt sponsor.

Greig Box Turnbull, the U's new managing director, said: "It’s a sports science thing - they didn’t want them on a coach for seven hours or so, whereas the train is about three-and-a-half hours from Milton Keynes.

"They’ll all be in a carriage together which adds to the team spirit and our principal sponsor Liontrust have agreed to pay for the travel, which is fantastic."
