OXFORD Brookes dominated in eights and fours with seven gold, three silver and five bronze medals at the British Universities and Colleges Sports Regatta at Nottingham, writes John Wiggins.

Monday’s events were curtailed by increasing winds, but not before Brookes had won five Championship events.

They retained the men’s eights title with Matthew Aldridge, Morgan Bolding, Michael Glover, Richard Hawkins, Rory Gibbs, Ben Reeves, Jamie Copus, Ask Tjom and cox Harry Brightmore

Brookes also won the women’s title for first time with Annie Withers, Dannielle Shrosbree, Grace Macdonald, Mirella McGee, Jessica Brown, Emily Herridge, Christie Duff, Imogen Mackie and cox Alice McWilliam.

Further wins were added in the men’s coxed and coxless as well as the women’s coxless fours.

At intermediate level, the Brookes men dominated with first, second and fourth in eights as well as taking all the medals in the coxed fours.

Oxford University’s lightweight women came away with a silver for their eight and bronzes for the quad and four.

l City of Oxford and Headington School enjoyed success at the Wallingford Regatta – the largest one-day event in the country.

Regatta chairman Ben Townsend was delighted the 12-hour programme at Dorney Lake was enhanced by live video streaming.

City of Oxford came away with a win in club fours as did Headington’s J16 quad and J18 double.

l Headington’s younger girls attended Monday’s Marlow Spring Regatta, winning the J14 octuple as well as the J15 coxed quads and the J17 single with India Mattocks.

Falcon Rowing Club’s women’s masters B coxed four enjoyed success at the two-day Evesham Regatta.

Hinksey Sculling School won the J15 double thanks to Andrew Clark and Rafe Stanford Meisl.

Stanley Cannons won in his J16 single, having already played a key part in the winning J16 quad on Saturday when there was also victory in the WJ15 coxed quad.

City of Oxford’s juniors celebrated 14 wins over the two days.

Success came from the J13 singles (Leila Stringer) and doubles (Sam Taylor and Barnaby Walls) through to the J18 quad, from which Natalie Morgan and Millie Beaver were also in the winning WIM3 quad.

Morgan went on to win the WJ18 single and was one of three girls to clinch three events.

J14s Eilish Turner-Frick and Bella Bowley won in the double on both days as well as being in the Sunday coxed quad with Josie Nash and Leila Stringer (her second win).

Nash also won the J14 single while Jamie Millington took the J15 singles on both days.

Ed Sharp (J14) and John Kosobucki (J18) won for Magdalen College School.
