OXFORD City Stars forward line has been boosted by Mike Whillock agreeing to sign for a third successive season.

The 23-year-old scored 11 goals in 26 National League Division 1 South games last season.

Whillock, who had a spell playing in Germany earlier in his career, is keen to get cracking again at Oxpens.

He said: “I would like to deliver the same quality as last season just more of it – speed, shots and hopefully more goals.”

Head coach Simon Anderson said: “It’s great to have Mike back.

“He works hard and I like the work ethic and grit he brings.”

Whillock is the second player to put pen-to-paper this week, following Joe Oliver’s decision to return.

The defender is one of the existing squad’s longest-serving players, taking to the ice for the club every year since the 2010/11 season.

He said: “I had no doubts in returning at all. Oxford is my club and family.

“We’ve progressed massively in the last couple of years and are looking to push on and consolidate another top-four finish in the coming season.”

Anderson said: “Joe goes about his business very quietly and for me is one of the most underrated players in this league.

“He reads the game great and is very calm at the back.”

OXFORD City Stars have launched a poll to rename one of the stands at Oxpens in honour of a legend from the club’s past.

Supporters have until next Monday to pick from a list of ten famous players on oxfordcitystars.com.

The winner will have their name displayed above a stand at the Oxford Ice Rink from next season.
