BANBURY captain Lloyd Sabin hopes spinner Luke Ryan’s luck has changed ahead of their Division 1 encounter at home to High Wycombe.

Ryan took season’s best figures of 4-22 in last Saturday’s 24-run win over Burnham in the Home Counties Premier League.

And it proved crucial with the visitors on 186-6, chasing 213, before the former captain swung the match in title-chasing Banbury’s favour.

Sabin believes Ryan fully deserves the plaudits and is backing the 27-year-old to add to the 31 wickets he has taken this season.

“Luke has bowled really well the last four or five weeks,” said the Banbury skipper, who names an unchanged team.

“But he is been unlucky to not pick up more wickets.

“He stepped up and was really good for us.

“One thing we have spoken about recently is all it takes is for one or two people to step up and Luke did that with the ball last week.”

With six games to go, Banbury sit third, six points behind leaders Finchampstead.

Sabin has taken a pragmatic approach to his side’s title chances so far.

And the 22-year-old will still not be drawn on the prospect of challenging for silverware at the end of the season.

“We just focus on Saturday,” he said.

“We try not to look at other scores and focus on what we have to do.

“Saturday is a big game, it always is against Wycombe.

“We will just control what we can control and see what happens.”

Great & Little Tew bid to bounce back from a heavy 165-run defeat to Slough when they travel to bottom club Harefield.

Tew’s unbeaten home run was ended by the Berkshire club last week, but they head to Woods Cricket Ground looking to record the double after a six-wicket victory earlier this season in the 50-over format.
