TONY Hobbs not only won the fifth round of the Oxford Summer League, but also helped Drennan Oxford Yellow tie for top spot in the team event.
The match, fished by seven teams of six on the Thames at Folly Bridge and Sandford, produced numerous double-figure weights from the brown-tinged river.
Hobbs, drawn on the top end peg at Folly below Osney Lock, had bream, skimmers and perch for a winning weight of 20lb 15oz 0drms.
He pipped runner-up, Geoff Vallance (Devizes MG), by an ounce, while another Drennan Oxford Yellow angler Arnold Liaukevicius was third with 20.5.0.

Harry Oliver showed his class to win the sixth round of Yarnton & District AC’s Summer League on Top Pool at the Tunnel Barn Farm.
Oliver beat his 13 rivals by putting 68.8.0 of carp and ide on the scales
Venue expert Steve Johnson was runner-up with 60.15.0, while Andy Wiffen came third with 45.7.
North Oxford Angling Society held their annual outing on Laura’s Lagoon where Jason Bean led the field of 15, with 53.4.0 of mainly carp. Predator shop owner Tony Wright was second, with 42.8.0 of carp on pellet, followed by Martin Robinson with 35.0.0 of carp and bream.
