OXFORD University Greyhounds reached the Oxfordshire Cup final for the first time in four years when beating Bicester 23-11 in a pulsating tie at Iffley Road.

Tries from Ollie Adams, Robbie Fraser and Dan Barley saw the hosts book their spot in the showpiece event on April 13 when they will face holders Banbury.

Greyhounds went ahead on six minutes when flanker Adams stretched across following a line-out.

Bicester replied almost immediately as lock Dan Spencer kicked a penalty.

The visitors then opened up an 8-5 lead after 18 minutes when Spencer crashed over in the corner.

But Greyhounds regained the advantage, once again using a line-out to their advantage.

The ball was worked to full back Fraser, who darted over. Tom Dyer converted to make it 12-8.

Bicester enjoyed a good spell of pressure, with Peter Tarrega and Francois Weise going close.

Greyhounds survived the onslaught, despite having hooker Aaron Henry sin-binned for handling in a ruck.

After the break, a Dyer penalty extended Oxford’s lead, but just as Henry returned to the field, prop Lewis Anderson was yellow-carded.

Bicester rallied and Spencer’s penalty reduced the arrears, however they were caught on the counter.

A clearance kick was collected by Oxford and slick handling resulted in Barley crossing to make it 20-11.

A try-saving tackle from Weise prevented the hosts from going over again, but Dyer’s penalty ensured victory.
