MICHAEL Appleton was thrilled to see another late victory from his side as Oxford United came from behind to win 2-1 against Scunthorpe United.

Phil Edwards got the final touch to Curtis Nelson's 91st-minute shot which claimed a valuable three points.

It was part of a strong finish to the game from the home side, where Liam Sercombe forced an excellent save from Iron goalkeeper Luke Daniels.

John Lundstram had earlier cancelled out Paddy Madden's first-half effort.

Incredibly, of the eight home games the U's have won in Sky Bet League One this season, the decisive goal in five of them has come after the 87th minute.

Appleton, United's head coach, said: "Long may it continue.

"You’ve got to stay in every game. That’s why I was so frustrated when we played the likes of Southend and Sheffield United here.

"When the board goes up and there’s four minutes on the clock I expect us to make one good chance."

The late goal was disputed between the two defenders and Appleton, who had not seen the video footage of the incident, was only bothered about the outcome.

Appleton said: "I’ve got no idea and I don’t care.

"I’ll let them argue about it, I’m just delighted to get the three points because I thought we worked our socks off and deserved it."

Afterwards Nelson was still claiming it as his goal, but Edwards was certain he got the touch which makes it his fifth of the season.

The full back said: "I knew I touched it and on the footage it clearly shows I got a touch.

"I don’t think Nelse’s shot is even going in to be fair.

"That’s why (Scunthorpe) were complaining, because they thought I was offside when I touched the ball.

"But I’ve seen the footage and I’m clearly onside, so it’s all good."
