OXFORD teenager Matt Chapman was delighted to score championship points on his British GT debut at Oulton Park

The 17-year-old Ginetta G55 GT4 driver took a best finish of ninth during a rain-affected first contest.

Teaming up with Sam Webster at Autoaid/RCIB Insurance for his rookie year in endurance racing, Chapman enjoyed his first taste of the action.

After racing to ninth overall in GT4 and fourth in the Silver class, the duo had to settle for 14th place – sixth in the Silver battle – in round two following a late spin for Webster as he avoided a huge, race-ending collision in the GT3 category.

“We were massively thrown in at the deep end with no pre-season testing,” said Chapman.

“But I was up for the challenge and I’m happy with what we achieved.

“We were still learning and finding the limits of the car through qualifying and the races. We had a fundamental issue in practice, but the team fixed it for qualifying.

“Sam did a great job in the second race to avoid the GT3 accident, he reacted well and I’m so grateful he brought the car home in one piece

“We’re happy with the weekend and now look forward to Rockingham.”
