PAUL Humphreys says there is a real excitement at Aston Rowant as the club bid to reach the sixth round of the Watsons Village Cup on Sunday.

The Home Counties Premier League club travel to Thames Valley League Division 1 side Cookham Dean in the first stage of the national rounds.

Rowant last advanced this far in 2007 and won this year’s Oxfordshire final by just two runs in a thrilling contest against Cumnor.

Chairman Humphreys, who captained Shipton-under-Wychwood at Lord’s in 1997, said a coach-load of supporters will be leaving the club for Cookham on Sunday morning.

He added “It’s very exciting.

“To win the Oxfordshire group is no mean feat.

“Once you get to that point you get a sniff for it and think may there be something happening here.

“The whole club starts to get behind it.”
