MORE than 150 juniors ensured the first annual Oxfordshire Junior Tennis festival was a big success.

In excess of 330 matches took place, with organisers confident they can build on the event and attract more juniors next year.

Held at North Oxford LTC, the festival featured players aged from six to 18 with singles, doubles and mixed doubles across all age categories.

As part of Tennis Oxfordshire’s remit to develop the sport across the county, organisers made the event inclusive to players who not only compete at regional or national level, but also for those playing at local tennis clubs and public parks.

“It’s great to see so many juniors on court,” said Nicola Maskens, chair of Tennis Oxfordshire.

“The level of play has been fantastic. Oxfordshire has a strong tennis history and the hard work of our county’s clubs and coaches really shines through – in both the on and off court performances of these young players.”
