WEST Oxford Democrats Club opened their campaign in the Oxford Winter League with a 4-2 win at home to Masons Arms in Division 1.

Terry Green (5,690) and John Patey (4,890) put Democrats in front before Dave Rose, who won by 30, and Maxi McDonnell levelled.

Green & Patey (13,310) and Garrett & Hill (9,200) took the pairs.

Bob Pincombe (5350) was the top scorer as Gladiators A drew 3-3 at home to Berinsfield, for whom John Boal scored 3,190.

In the Premier Division, Donnington won 6-0 at home to Gladiators B.

Vikings A drew 3-3 with their B side, who led 3-1 down after wins by Jon-Joe Kelly,Sean and Mick Stratford.

Oracle won 5-1 at home to Headington Con Club thanks to Mark Trafford (12,060 break 9850), Pauline Withey (4220), Ian Gordon (6490) and Steven Sheard (9,480 break 8,930).

The pairs were shared, with Keith Hollis and Roger Tomlin (7,350) preventing a whitewash.
