OXFORD Saints women’s team finished their season on a triumphant note when they won the BAFA Sapphire Division 2B Championship at Tilsley Park, Abingdon.
Despite the harsh weather, they fought off Peterborough Royals and Kent Exiles for an impressive victory on their home ground.
Both opponents played hard, but the Saints’ drilled passing, combined with their usual impressive running game, won the day.
After a 41-6 victory against Peterborough, Saints won 42-18 against Kent in the final to clinch the title.
Head coach Adam Baker said: “I am so proud of our team. From the first practice, I set one goal for the team, and everyone has applied themselves to achieve that goal.
“The team has shown versatility, tenacity and a willingness to learn. As coaches, Luke Fry and I could not ask for more.
“This year we have had better practice attendance and at the request of the team, more footage study sessions, and this has all shown on the field.”
The Saints will now move up a division.
Baker added: “We have come so far from last year and are excited to move from 5’s to 7’s next season.”
