DIDCOT Town manager Andy Ballard says his side will go to Wimborne Town tonight full of confidence for their Evo-Stik South League West Division play-off semi-final.

The Railwaymen produced a special finish to the season, winning their final three matches.

They finished the job with a 3-0 home victory over Paulton Rovers on Saturday, which secured sixth place and the division’s final play-off spot.

With Wimborne finishing third, that means a trip to Dorset this evening.

“It was a fantastic result on Saturday,” Ballard said.

“It was certainly a nervy afternoon, but we got the job done, and scored three good goals.

“We will go into the play-off as underdogs because Wimborne finished third, but on the back of three wins, I think we have all the momentum.”

Didcot have done the league double over Wimborne this season, and Ballard says his side will travel to Dorset full of confidence.

He said: “Wimborne is a good place to go and play – we’ve had good success against them.

“Of course it will be a very tough game, they play good football.

“We have tended to struggle a bit against sides that play a direct game, but Wimborne pass the ball around nicely, and so I’m sure it will be a good game.”

It took Didcot 44 minutes to make the breakthrough against Paulton.

Callum McNish’s finish gave them a half-time lead, but it stayed just 1-0 until the 89th minute, when Dave Murphy found Felipe Barcelos to score.

Sam Barder put the icing on the cake in stoppage-time, but despite admitting to his side feeling the nerves, Ballard insisted they were good value for their win.

He said: “We always knew it was in our own hands, and although we had to be very patient, because Paulton made us work hard, I felt that if we took our time and took our chances, we would do OK.

“I felt we thoroughly deserved the win and a place in the play-offs.”

The final day decider came on the back of two wins in midweek.

Barcelos struck twice last Tuesday in a 4-2 home win against Larkhall Athletic.

Marlon Agyakwa opened the scoring, while Lewis Hayden chose an excellent moment to score his first goal of the season.

And 48 hours later Didcot followed it up with a 2-0 victory at North Leigh.

Barcelos got them off to a perfect start by opening the scoring in the second minute.

Cameron McNeill was also on target at Eynsham Park.
