CITY of Oxford secured three individual successes when their B team competed in the second round of the Milton Keynes Junior League at Maidenhead.
The first victory came from 11-year-old Quien Zhang in the 50m breaststroke.
This was followed by a clean sweep in the 12-year-old backstroke with David Feng and Rebekka Smit coming first in the boys’ and girls’ races respectively.
City’s team, made up of swimmers aged between eight and 12, got off to a great start in the relays with a win in the
12-year-old girls medley from Smit, Juliet Anthony, Mary Cater and Imogen Duffen.
The same team cameg second in the freestyle relay, while the nine-year-old girls team of Layla Clare, Greta Charles, Isabella Nyazika and Cerys Obbink achieved two runner-up places.
City finished a creditable fourth overall amongst strong opposition, with the eventual winners being the hosts Maidenhead Marlins.
Due to issues with venue, the A team competition had to be run as a ‘virtual’ gala, based on results from the first round.
The final round of the competition for both A and B teams will take place in
September.
